This initiative is led by the Coordination of Catalan Non-Governmental Organizations (85 member organizations) based in Barcelona, and two partners, the Consortium of Piedmont NGOs (30 member organizations) and RESACOOP, the coordination of the Region Rhône- Alpes, based in Lyon (the latter consisting of several NGOs but also by French local authorities and universities).
The project idea was developed in autumn 2011 and brought to the attention of the European Union under a Call promoted every two years by the offices dealing with international cooperation, with th aim to promote public awareness on European issues related to development and cooperation.
Introduced in November 2011 in the form of a summary of 5 pages and on 14 May 2012 with a complete dossier, the project was approved by the European Commission on 16 August 2012, after a tough selection that has financed a total of 71 projects at a European level on thousands of submitted proposals.
The relevance of the approval of the project is given by the fact that analysing the results, in relation to the nationality of the leading subjects, only 7 projects led by Italians were selected, 5 led by Spanish (including this one) and 4 with the French leaders.
In October 2011 together with our partners we pointed on the creation of a project that allowed to build an international network between the world of international cooperation, the information system and the universities as part of their academic activities that aim at training future journalists.
The project will enable the realization in Piedmont, as well as in Spain and in France, of:
- A series of international seminars and workshops
- Training courses for staff of NGOs and local authorities that deal with communication and cooperation
- Training courses and / or update for journalists
- Training modules and seminars to be offered within the university courses
- Two studies, to be carried out at the regional level. The first one on how the media address issues related to international cooperation, and the other one on the impact and way of communicating of NGOs.
An action that will allow the creation of reports in countries where NGOs from Piedmont, Catalonia and Rhone-Alpes operate, with the establishment of an ad hoc International Prize to be awarded when the project ends at Final Forum in 2015.
