The project REDDSO - Regions for Sustainable Development and International Solidarity Education started on 1 April 2013. It is led by the French region Rhône-Alpes and involves partners from France, Italy, Spain and Poland.
General objective:
Encourage the kickoff of a participatory process in the partner regions (Rhône-Alpes, Piedmont, Catalonia and Małopolska) to promote a shared definition and a convergence of public policies for sustainable development and international solidarity education (EDD-SI) in educational systems aiming at the formation of a global citizenship.
Specific objective:
Create a permanent, inter-regional and multi-actors platform of resources, exchanges and experimentation on EDD-SI, in relation with the ACP countries (Africa-Caribbean-Pacific), to encourage the promotion of a global citizenship (Millennium Development Goals 1 - 2 - 7 – 8).
The direct beneficiaries are in the four European regions:
- 8,000 students and 2,000 teachers in 400 schools involved in teaching procedures, training activities and international exchanges.
- The specialized personnel of Local Authorities, Regional Parks and Associations (about 2,000 people).
- 150 teachers and trainers / facilitators in ACP countries (Piedmont and France will deal with West African countries, while Spain will deal with Latin American countries).
The expected results and activities planned in Piedmont and at the international level:
Outcome 1: Creating a platform of interregional resources and exchange, which will involve players in the South and will serve as a place for sharing best practices and knowledge for Sustainable Development and International Solidarity Education (EDD-SI). It will be valued the educational website "Londoo Tiloo" ("Star of Knowledge" in Mandinka language) carried out within the European project Des Alpes au Sahel. Currently in French and Italian, it will be developed in Catalan and Polish.
A 1.1 Constitution and animation of a Steering Committee composed of representatives of partners of the 4 European regions: hence it will be composed of 14 people (4 for Piedmont) and will meet 2 times the first year, once in video conferencing and once the third year.
A 1.2 Organization of an International Seminar of exchange and for the launch of the European platform which will take place in Lyon on 13-14 June 2013
A 1.3 Development of an inter-regional database of the most innovative educational practices that will be on www.londootiloo.org and will present 20 experiences for each partner region and 10 from ACP countries, selected following the criteria defined jointly by the International Steering Committee.
A 1.4 Organization of a final seminar of presentation of results and of the European platform that will involve different actors of the four regions around the theme of the project. It will be held in Turin in 2015 and will involve the participation of 120 people.
Outcome 2: Realization in each partner region of multi-actorial and interregional pedagogical experiences in the field of EDD-SI
A 2.1 Establishment of four Regional Commissions for the launch, monitoring and assessment of experiments. Each commission will meet every six months and will determine the selection criteria for the most innovative experiments (A 2.5) for the publication on the interregional database. The Commission will also have to define the content and methods of training of trainers / facilitators (A 2.3) and the modalities for the selection of experiments to support (A 2.4).
In Piedmont, the Regional Committee will include representatives of NGOs, local authorities (municipalities, provinces and the Cocopa), Schools, Parks, University of Turin and the Regional Education Office.
A 2.2 Effectuation, in Catalonia and Maloposka of a study on the needs, challenges and developments in Sustainable Development and International Solidarity Education (similar to what was done in Piedmont and Rhone-Alpes in 2009 within the framework of Des Alpes au Sahel)
A 2.3 Training of trainers to make them able to elaborate and implement innovative teaching practices, to support teachers, trainers and specialized staff of Local Authorities, Regional Parks and associations in each region. In Piedmont, the Regional Commission will define the content and methods of training, for which there are scheduled 12 modules of 5 days (2 hours of training per day) from the second year onwards and with the participation of about 40 people per module.
A 2.4 Organization of a workshop to exchange practices among trainers from the 4 partner regions and ACP countries to be held in Barcelona during the second year (2014-2015) with the participation of about 100 people including 8 from Burkina Faso, from Senegal and Argentina.
A 2.5 Experimentation of innovative and inter-regional teaching practices
Calls for proposals will be organized to support with approximately € 1,000 schools, associations, local and regional parks for carrying out projects of EDD-SI (about 100 in total), with the possibility of involving schools and associations in the ACP countries in the framework of decentralized cooperation.
Outcome 3: Strengthening relations between the educational systems of the 4 partner regions with ACP countries involved in the project, within the activities of international and decentralized cooperation developed by each region.
A 3.1 Organization of 6 thematic video conferences between partners and actors in the South. The Piedmont Region and the Consortium of Piedmont NGOs will organize 2 video conferences, in Ouagadougou and Dakar, with the support of NGOs working in West Africa. These seminars will be organized in Turin and connected by video conference with similar simultaneous workshops organized in Africa. The video conference will bring together 50 teachers from Piedmont and 50 African teachers for each seminar.
A 3.2 Organization and animation of nine national workshops with a participatory approach. In Piedmont, 3 workshops will be organized. The first will take place in March-April 2014 to discuss and analyze the experiences of the other three regions and to reflect on the selection criteria for the promotion of innovative practices (A 1.3). The second seminar will address the issue of the evaluation of the practices of EDD-SI. And the third will propose practical activities to involve schools in the use of educational materials published on the site Londoo Tiloo. Each workshop will be attended by 80 participants.
A 3.3 Organization and animation of exchanges of good practices with the ACP countries. 2 seminars will be organized in Senegal and Burkina Faso, with the support of the members of RESACOOP and COP (2 persons) and 10 teachers who will go on site for a week. In conjunction with the seminar, teachers will be involved in sharing educational experiences for 4 days in 4 schools in Senegal and Burkina Faso, which will lead to the development of 10 teaching aids used to supplement the inter-regional database.
A 3.4 Implementation of a capitalization study of the developed experimentation and partnership actions. RESACOOP will coordinate the follow up.
