Against social exclusion

The project ‘Fight against poverty and social exclusion: community development in the Governorate of Giza’ is financed by the Foreign Affair Italian Ministry, the COSPE Ngo and the Community Development Associations (CDA) Abu el Nomros and El Saff.

Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries of this activity are the people who live in the community of El Saff and Abu El Nomros, and particularly: 60 small entrepreneurs; 600 young and 400 job-seeking women; 3000 people (600 women, 1400 young and 1000 children) are involved in the socio-cultural activities; 300 disabled children and their families; 240 members of the councils, middle management staff and representatives of the 12 CDA of the Giza Federation.

Objective of the intervention
The project aims at contributing to the reduction of poverty and of human development through the strengthening of the Community Development Associations of the Giza Governorate, organisations operating in rural and semi-rural areas, whose role is that of offering basic services for local communities in the pre-school educational sector, socio-cultural and professional education for the most disadvantaged social groups. The proposed action has the objective of improving the social conditions of vulnerable groups living in the Abu al Nomros and el Saff through the reinforcement of the capacity of 2 partner CDA to read, to represent and to respond to the needs of their communities, consolidating, in a democratic sense, the management and organisational skills of the councils of the CDA in order to sustain a process aimed at a larger participation of the beneficiaries to the community’s initiatives, operating in connection with the population’s needs and local institutions. Particularly, the proposed action aims at reinforcing the services of job vocational guidance and at promoting community empowerment and social awareness, encouraging the social integration of disadvantaged subjects such as young people, women, children and the disabled, through the following activities: capacity and institutional building; gender awareness; promotion and rehabilitation of educational centres and public libraries; reinforcement and support to multimedia centres; consolidation of job vocational guidance centres; promotion of rehabilitation centres for disabled subjects.
