Description
In Egypt, the southern economy is mainly based on agriculture, animal husbandry and, in a smaller proportion, commerce. The poverty level registered in Upper Egypt, due to the lack of private and governmental investments in this area, is one of the higher in the Country, the Governorate of Sohag in particular, stands out for the severely weak economical conditions still existing in most of its villages.
At the same time, thousands of people across the country that have traditional skills and knowledge, are working in the informal sector. Large number of them make a living by producing traditional handicrafts.
The action aim is to illustrate the relevance of developing and reinforcing handicraft production and to promote employment and development for the most marginalized populations, especially the poorest youth and women.
Objectives
The overall objective of the action is to support the preservation of traditional, heritage handmade industries in Egypt as a vector for sustainable economic and human development as well as the cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
Specific objectives are to improve vocational training programmes and other related activities, to contribute to the employability of the professionals of the cultural sector in Sohag governorate. Also, to promote awareness-raising program in order to influence the formulation of public policies and private investments in Sohag governorate.

Promote traditional handicrafts products
Create an awareness-raising program on the importance of traditional handicrafts.
Developing stocks of handicrafts products, provide materials, books and literacy manuals
Develop groups of training team
Providing professional and technical skills to women, students and teachers in vocational schools and workshops
